The summary of the activities within The Career Change Community for Technical Professionals and Knowledge Workers Facebook Group for the week of Oct 24-30, 2023

Troy Heiner

Hello Fellow Mavericks!

You will notice I say “Mavericks” a lot for three reasons. One, Purposeful Pathways for Mid-Career Mavericks was the original name for this group. Two, The Career Change Community for Technical Professionals and Knowledge Workers, though highly accurate, is a mouthful, and TCCC4TP&KW is an unwieldy acronym. An acronym MUST be three letters, and the number of the counting must be three!

(That’s one, count them, ONE Monty Python reference, ha, ha, ha!)

And three, because we’re going to do things differently than all the other job seekers and career advisors out there, because if you do what everybody else is doing, you’ll wind up where everybody else is, which according to Gallup, 91% of workers are underemployed and disengaged in the workplace.

This past week in our Facebook community, we embarked on a transformative journey, to change our STAARS. (Darnit, I just violated the Holy Book of Acronyms!)

(That’s two, count them, TWO Monty Python references, ha ha ha!)

Ok, enough funny business, let’s get serious! We kicked off and ended the Live At Five with a shameless reference and reading from 'Think and Grow Rich,' to coincide with the launch of the Secrets Of Success Community by Russell Brunson. The first time I “read” the book, I didn’t really read it, because it was written for salesmen and industrialists, and I was a low level Government employee at the time trying to decide if I wanted to start a business on the side. But guess what, as a job seeker, you are selling yourself as the product, and a salesmen’s mindset is extremely helpful. And even as a technical professional, you need to learn to influence others, so your ideas and vision find purchase in other people’s minds.

Then we pivoted to discussing Clarity, and we explored the profound concept of Ikigai, its origins and applications to technical professions. It's where passion, vocation, profession, and mission converge, leading one to a career that’s not just fulfilling but harmoniously aligned with personal and global needs. Our discussion on the 'Passion Recipe' further elucidated how an Autotelic experience blended with a Clarity of Purpose could be the catalyst for that profound pivot in our careers.

Deeply rooted Clarity leads to Commitment, and our tool for going deep was The 'Why Hammer'. Asking ourselves WHY the thing we want in our lives and careers at least seven times, WHY is it important? deeper into their 'why,' thus solidifying the foundation of their career transition journey. What that does is reveal a WHY that is so down to the core of our being that it would be impossible for anything to stop us from achieving it.

We also explored Dan Sullivan’s '4 C’s of Success,' an enlightening discourse that aligns seamlessly with the principles of Pinnacle Pivot, emphasizing the essence of Commitment, Courage, Capability, and Confidence in this voyage of transformation. I also cautioned that it is possible (even likely) to traverse the cycle in the wrong direction, which is why deep Clarity and Commitment will provide the Courage needed to conquer any obstacle in your path.

Finally we got to the STAARS framework, a deep dive into nurturing Situation Awareness, and a vital element of the Pinnacle Pivot Program. It’s about calibrating our Thinking, Attitude, and Actions, while garnering the requisite Support to manifest desirable Results. STAARS isn’t just a framework; it’s a blueprint embedded in Pinnacle Pivot, guiding individuals through the intricacies of their career transition journey. Since it is highly personal, it was difficult to do it justice on a live video for group consumption. But if you want to see how it works, you can engage with me in the group and book a Zoom call with me.

There were lots of other posts in the group as well, excerpts from my interview on the Give Yourself Some Leeway Podcast, and a few other articles I found interesting.

Next week, I will be focusing on how to create the plan/map/compass that will get you from your current situation (aka Point A) to where you want to be (aka Point B). Spoiler alert, that next job you want? That's not the end goal, that's just the first step!

To your ultimate success,

Troy Heiner
(aka Chief Maverick, Cap’n DISCovery, and THAT GUY!!)

P.S. If you are not in the Facebook Group yet, this is the stuff you are missing. If you are in the Facebook Group, but not absorbing the content, maybe this will get you more involved in our conversations going forward. I think I’m doing a pretty good job, but I’ll do an even better job helping you, if you help me by giving me your feedback!

Go check out the group now!
